THE SEED
We are all trying to get home. Coming Home Seeds embraces our role as future ancestors by remembering the selection and seed saving practices that pre-date industrialization and colonial agriculture.
These practices are essential for long term regional and global food security.
We believe that by stewarding diverse gene pools we can lead local crop adaptation under the extreme conditions of climate chaos.
We're working to bring small-scale grain growing to our partner vegetable farms. We’ve cultivated grain populations are that are adapted to the Northeast that can become staple pantry and dining table features for all of our neighbors across the Hudson Valley. Since 2016, we have used population breeding and selection, working with over 2000 ancient and modern grain varieties.
To support integration of grain into vegetable farm infrastructure, we are working to develop a community seed cleaning facility and mill with community partners.
In field margins, on weekends and late evenings, we’ve built this work over the last few years.
